WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 24, 2007)—Mark W. Everson, president and chief executive officer of the American Red Cross will deliver the keynote speech, “Thoughts from a Recovering Political Appointee,” at American University’s School of Public Affairs 30th Annual Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership ceremony at 7 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 4 in the Katzen Arts Center’s Abramson Family Recital Hall (4400 Massachusetts Ave, NW). 

 

The 2007 recipients of the Roger W. Jones Award, presented to two Federal career executives, who have demonstrated the same commitment to excellence, leadership, and professional development as the man for whom this award is named, are:

John E. Potter, Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer

United States Postal Service; and

In its 30th year, The Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership recognizes public servants in the federal government whose careers are marked by extraordinary effectiveness in organizational development and a strong commitment to training and education managers and executives. Charles Bowsher, former Comptroller General of U.S., chairs the selection committee which includes distinguished government executives including the current Comptroller General David M. Walker. The award is named for Jones (1908-1993), a leader in federal government for more than four decades.  Among his appointments, he served as chairman of the Civil Service Commission (1959-1961); deputy under secretary of state for administration (1961-1962); senior consultant and special assistant to the director, Bureau of the Budget (1962-1975).  His service was marked with ability to lead change based on the belief that government can mobilize human talents in order to accomplish goals.
